Horizontal Directional Drilling has grown in South Africa as a response to infrastructure development and the need for faster, less disruptive and more environmentally friendly alternative to trenching. HDD can be used within a number of infrastructure projects, including electrical, telecommunications, gas, sewer and water installation. In some instances Horizontal Directional Drilling is used in place of pipe jacking.

What is Horizontal Directional Drilling?

Directional boring, commonly referred to as horizontal directional drilling or HDD, is a steerable trenchless method of installing underground pipe, conduit or cable ina shallow arc along a prescribed bore path by using a surface-launched drilling rig. This methodology has minimal impact on the surrounding environment.
